Job Description

Job Summary:

The Service Center Director will report to the Field Representative and/or Director of Development of The Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters in Carnegie and will work directly with the local Advisory Board in order to coordinate and execute the day-to-day programming for the Chartiers Valley Service Center.

In general, the Service Center Director shall be responsible for the following: to work in conjunction with the Advisory Board to maintain, enhance or expand existing services offered to the community. The Service Center Director will outreach to the community and fundraise for various services provided.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


The Service Center Director will oversee the normal daily routine of dealing with clients, offering them guidance and assistance with their needs (i.e. food, clothing, rental assistance, etc.) The Service Center Director may not provide more than $250 on any individual voucher without prior approval from the Director of Development. The Director of Development will approve any amount above $250.
The Service Center Director will ensure collaboration with areas social services agencies, and will serve as The Salvation Army’s representative in social service related meetings. Due to the proximity of Divisional Headquarters, it is crucial that the Director of Development is kept briefed relative to the community’s needs and concerns with any Salvation Army activity.
The Service Center Director will track and compile monthly statistical reports due to The Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters.

The Service Center Director will coordinate all fundraising activities to benefit The Salvation Army locally. The Service Center Director will maintain or expand the following existing seasonal programs:
Kettles – Coordination of kettle sites during the Christmas season and to secure adequate volunteers.
Christmas assistance applications – Accept applications from local families and individuals for Christmas assistance, i.e. Treasures for Children, Sheetz Family Christmas, Holiday baskets, etc.
Distribution Days – Work in cooperation with the Advisory Board to coordinate Christmas toy and food distributions.
Back-to-School Program – Raise the money locally to fund the program; $50 towards specific clothing items and school supplies recommended by the school for each student grades K-12.
Summer Camp – Recruiting children of the appropriate age for the allotted slots, making sure the parents are well informed on the guidelines, rules and schedule so that the campers will have a very positive experience that they will remember for years to come.
Emergency Food Pantry – Make sure there is always enough food collected to distribute to people in need.
Project Bundle-Up – Accept applications from local families and individuals for the Project Bundle-Up program for children and senior citizens.
Other fundraising duties – Collect and distribute regular food boxes to various senior citizen high-rises.

Advisory Board – The Service Center Director will schedule and attend all Advisory Board meetings and have available monthly financial reports, service reports and updates on latest activities with the exception of when on vacation or due to illness. In addition, the Service Center Director will recruit new Advisory Board members.
Community Meetings – Maintaining a presence in the community with local organizations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to embrace and demonstrate The Salvation Army mission statement.
A background in social services, marketing, sales or Christian ministry preferred.
A background or proven ability to develop and monitor budgets.
A proven ability to work independently with little or no daily supervision
A proven ability to manage and lead others in accomplishing established objectives.
Able to produce well constructed and clearly written communications and reports
A current PA driver’s license.
Good interpersonal skills, conflict resolution skills.
All three PA Clearances required upon employment and thereafter upon renewal date: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Request for Criminal Record, and Fingerprint based federal criminal history.
PA Mandated and Permissive Reporting and The Salvation Army’s KeepSAfe training required.

Education and Experience:

A bachelor’s degree in social services is preferred.
At least 3 -5 years of social service, business or Christian ministry background.
