Position Summary:

The Shaler Area Swim Club is looking to hire an Assistant Coach for our 100+ member swim team. The candidate is expected to direct leadership, instruction and motivation for swim team participants. The assistant swim coach is expected to attend practices, swim meets and team functions throughout the year. Most importantly they are responsible for creating and maintaining a fun and safe environment for the swim team participants.

Qualifications:

1. 2+ years experience as a competitive swimmer;

2. 2+ years swim coaching experience preferred;

3. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency of swim skills in accordance with USA Swimming standards and have a strong foundation in stroke mechanics and be able to communicate effectively with swimmers and their parents;

4. Enthusiastic, dynamic presence with good communication skill;

5. At least 20 years of age.

6. The assistant coach must meet, or willingness to obtain, all certification (on USA Swimming’s acceptable course list) and education requirements which include, but are not limited to:

• FIRST AID for adult and child

• CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK

• CPR with AED

• ATHLETE PROTECTION TRAINING

• LIFEGUARDING + ONLINE STSC TEST

Or SAFETY TRAINING FOR SWIM COACHES

• USA SWIMMING NON-ATHLETE MEMBERSHIP

• USA SWIMMING- FOUNDATIONS OF COACHING 101

Physical Demands:

Ability to swim and demonstrate stroke techniques.

Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.

Ability to lift and move equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.

Time Demands:

Fall/Winter Season (September – March)

This is a part-time position that includes approximately 9 hours per week of

evening swim practice, plus time for creating workouts and handling administrative

details for swim meets. Weekend attendance at swim meets is required on two to three

weekends per month from October through March.

Summer Season (May – July)

This is a part-time position that includes approximately 12 hours per week of morning swim

practice, plus time for creating workouts and handling administrative details for swim meets.

Weeknight attendance at swim meets is required two nights during a six weeks period and then on the weekend mornings from June through July.
