Transition Education Coordinator
Epilepsy Foundation : Pittsburgh, PA
Position Objective/Summary:
This is a 12 month, full:time position working primarily in the southwestern Pennsylvania region.
Primary responsibilities include addressing the need to educate public school district personnel about the needs of students with epilepsy; specifically those personnel involved in the system of transitional planning for students with disabilities. And, addressing the needs of students with epilepsy who are transition age and preparing plans to transition into adult life.
Position helps to coordinate education, marketing and outreach activities and provides accurate and contemporary information about epilepsy to educators, students and their families, and the general public. This is done by planning educational seminars, facilitating presentations and organizing outreach activities that are in accordance with directives from the EFWCP Board of Directors and President/CEO.
This position also supports special events fundraising as requested and necessary, providing staff support to event committees, etc.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
:Develop strategies to increase awareness and knowledge of epilepsy and its impact on potential employment and learning among Pennsylvanias school district personnel, and system of Technical and Career Education Center personnel.
:Provide individual services to students with epilepsy/seizure to improve their awareness of potential employment related resources and transition to adult life services available to students with disabilities.
:Facilitate and host on:line trainings/post webinars for on:line learning as necessary.
:Plan, facilitate and coordinate community based conferences for district personnel and families.
:Conduct on:site training for Career and Technical School personnel.
:Conduct on:going on:site trainings for district personnel as requested.
:Recruit potential employers to participate in job fairs.
:Facilitate and host job fairs.
:Establish and maintain effective, on:going relationships with schools, intermediate units, school districts, vocational training facilities and other consumer advisory groups or community service agencies.
:Respond to requests from parents, adults, families, community entities and medical professionals for information regarding seizures, epilepsy and related issues.
:Provide appropriate referrals for children, families and adults to outside community services and programs.
:Track latest developments in the diagnosis, treatment and advancements in the field of epilepsy and makes this information available for dissemination.
:Provide staff support as requested and needed for EFWCP events.
:Works with program and development staff to develop and publish appropriate brochures and materials as needed and requested to implement program activities.
:Develop and maintain appropriate types of education, training and presentation materials for use with various groups.
:Develop and utilize standardized evaluation tools for measuring the effectiveness of presentations.
:Coordinate scheduling of education workshops each year.
:Participate in position:related training, development and workshop opportunities that may be scheduled in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Erie or other areas of the state.
:Develop program specific objectives at least annually.
:Submit progress reports to the EFWCP Management as requested.
:Work with the EFWCP Management to coordinate all reports required by funding sources.
:Provide input from respective program for inclusion in agency brochures, newsletters, advertising, etc.
:Travel to communities located in western/central Pennsylvania; attends local or national conferences, seminars as requested.
:Support and adhere to the agencys policies and practices.
