* Key Responsibilities *
Located in Springdale, Pennsylvania the Development Chemist Technical Customer Service plans, conducts and coordinates multiple Industrial Coil products within given time and budget constraints, and with responsibility for decisions and interpretations. The primary focus of this role is supporting current customer initiatives and troubleshooting issues by working closely with the customer and PPG s manufacturing teams. S/he will formulate or reformulate current products and technologies and perform all phases of work for a major program of moderate scope, including several simultaneous projects at various stages of completion. S/he will integrate input from various sources and has the freedom to modify procedures accordingly to achieve success in the marketplace.
*Major Accountabilities:*
* Understands supports and conforms to company policies and processes. Demonstrates leadership in the use of policies and processes.
* Drive compliance with PPG Environmental, Health and Safety policies
* Support Industrial Coil product development and product launches by working closely with the production team to ensure the initial product scale up is successful.
* Provides assistance in testing the production batches prior to customer trials.
* Perform post-trial testing to ensure the product(s) meet PPG/ customer standards and will not derail the commercialization of product.
* Participate in product robustness activities for current and new coating technologies to understand operating window and sustain running at customer facilities.
* Develop new test methods that will have an impact in acceleration of coating results. Simulation of customer line conditions to increase the rate of products launch.
* Demonstrates ability to independently plan and coordinate technical activities of other team members.
* Work closely with the color, manufacturing and product development teams. Embrace a diverse group of people and know how to deal with different personalities.
* Work closely with the customers. Understand their needs and line configuration/ conditions and how it effects PPG products.
* Learn to balance multiple high priorities and must be very flexible as priorities may change. Clear communication and work from agreed upon time lines for projects is extremely important.
* Understand manufacturing process and protocols. Work with raw material suppliers and have a good grasp on how RM cost affects bottom line.
* Solves problems through the application of knowledge of appropriate scientific, experimental, and statistical methods. Proven ability to use fundamental principles to identify root causes of problems. A technical resource for others outside of their project area.
* Able to communicate at all levels and to motivate peers and associates in cooperative efforts.
* Promotes teamwork and resolves conflicts between team members. Accepts and delivers meaningful feedback.
* Demonstrates the ability to lead job specific aspects of multiple projects, lead a project team, and/or directly supervises work of other associates.
*Minimum Qualifications*
* Master's Degree and at least six months of chemistry experience within paints or coatings or;
* B.S Degree with at least three years of chemistry experience within paint and coatings
*Preferred Qualifications (in addition to Required Qualifications)*
* Coil coating experience
*Functional and Technical Skills*
* Demonstrated track record of relevant work experience in a dynamic environment with competing priorities.
* Strongly preferred Technical Coil Experience.
