This position directs the operation of Units 1 and 2, the NIDs and is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the units in compliance with all environmental regulations.
:Directs the Operation of Units 1 and 2 and the NIDs (Scrubbers) including start:up/shutdown, normal operation and emergency response within guidelines established by State and Federal Regulations. Maintains accurate logs and communicates unit equipment status to plant management. Reports operating levels and schedules load reductions with Load Dispatchers.
:Supervises and is directly responsible for the safe isolation and lockout of equipment for the protection of all employees and contractors. Assures that the LOTO, Confined Space, and Station Emergency Response Procedures are followed and monitors the station LOTO procedure
:Promotes accident prevention and safety awareness by conducting pre:shift briefings and monthly safety meetings
:Supervises the duties of operating personnel and, during off:shift periods Maintenance, Water, and Coal Handling Departments, for priority work.
:Monitors and evaluates maintenance activities to expedite return of equipment and systems to service
:Conducts and coordinates Operations personnel Training and Qualification and scheduling.
:Develops shift vacation schedules and assures that qualified relief personnel are available
:Troubleshoots problems and corrects or recommends corrective action
:Responsible for writing Technical Instructions.
:Assures shift cleaning and housekeeping assignments are completed.
:Ordering of consumable materials such as fuel oil, hydrogen, CO2 and ammonia
:Actively participates as a Station Fire Brigade member
:This person is the sole management representative during the off shift periods
:High School diploma or GED Equivalent
:Minimum of 5 years work experience in a power plant or a related industrial setting
:2 year Associate Engineering
:Basic computer knowledge, DCS Ovation Control System training, and experience is
:Homer City Station systems and equipment experience is preferred.
:Must have above average knowledge of mechanical/electrical systems and ability to comprehend Power Generation theory.
:Effective leadership skills to direct and motivate individuals. Disciplined to provide information in required logs and able to communicate orally and in writing.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
:This a mixed work environment that combines both offices and plants working conditions with moderate to medium noise levels.
:Must be able to wear required personal protection equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, goggles, face shields, hearing protection, respirators, fall protection harnesses, and other PPE as required.
